Perhaps unsurprisingly, Japanese filmmakers saw the horrors of the internet first – namely, Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Satoshi Kon. The latter understood the internet perhaps more deeply than any filmmaker of his time, and it’s a pity he didn’t live to help us understand it for much longer.
